A delegation from Isfahan University of Technology traveled to Iraqi Kurdistan
Following the official invitations, from Iraqi Kurdistan Region Universities, a delegation of officials and faculty members of Isfahan University of Technology headed by Dr. Mahmood Modarres Hashemi, president of IUT, visited 3 universities of Iraqi Kurdistan during a 5-day trip from September 6 - 10, 2015. Sulaimani Polytechnic University was the host of the IUT delegation in this visit.
The main goal of this trip was to enhance further ties in the fields of scientific, research and educational collaborations between IUT and the universities of Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as implementing signed agreements with these universities.
On Saturday 6th IUT delegation were warmly welcomed by Presidents and vice presidents of University of Sulaimani and Sulaimani Polytechnic University and Islamic Republic of Iran's Consul General's representative in Sulaimaniyah and then had a meeting at the Sulaimaniyah government building with governor of Sulaimaniyah, president of University of Sulaimaniyah, president of Sulaimaniyah Polytechnic University and a number of the Sulaimaniyah province senior officials. In this meeting, Sulaimaniyah province officials expressed their interest in cooperation with Isfahan University of Technology and enumerate different capabilities of Islamic Republic of Iran and Iranian universities specially IUT. Then they discuss about different cooperation topics especially in the fields of agriculture, water resources, energy resources, roads and urban development and environmental protection.
On the second day, the delegation from IUT visited University of Sulaimani, where they were warmly received by University of Sulaimani President, Professor Dr Salahalddin Saeed Ali, and other university officials. Then the parties began to discuss about the strategies to increase cooperation between the two universities. The main topic of discussion was about holding graduate courses by IUT for UOS students as well as providing opportunities for UOS professors and researchers to spend their research sabbatical leaves at IUT.
On the third day the delegation from IUT visited Sulaimani Polytechnic University where they were kindly received by president of Sulaimani Polytechnic University, Dr. Alan F. Ali and other university officials. Then, during an official session the parties discussed about the conduct of graduate courses which are supposed to be held in IUT for SPU students. After that, during a formal ceremony attended by universities presidents and vice-presidents, IUT representative office in SPU opened officially. The mission of this representative office is to consider the needs and facilities, and to accelerate and pursuit the implementation of the MOU’s contents as well as accelerating the necessary correspondence and arrangements for student admission and academic members’ sabbatical leaves.
Visiting Kurdistan Institution for Strategic studies and scientific Research, which is a research institute affiliated with SPU, was another program of IUT delegates in this day. During this visit, IUT delegation members got familiar with the activities of this institute and then an MOU has been signed by IUT President Dr. Modarress Hashemi and SPU President Dr. Alan Ali to facilitating common research activities, the exchange of scientific information and the exchange of PhD students and professors between IUT and this institute.
On the last day, IUT delegation visited Koya University. Dr. Wali M. Hamad, President of Koya University warmly welcomed IUT delegation. After that, during a session at Koya University, Prof. Mahboobi Soofiani director of IUT scientific and international cooperation office and Prof. Noorbakhsh dean of IUT graduate studies center had presentations about IUT’s capabilities, facilities and rules and regulations for student admission. Then parties discussed about common cooperation areas and afterwards a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between IUT and Koya University.
At the end of this visit, during IUT delegation official farewell ceremony, Islamic Republic of Iran’s Consuls General in Sulaimaniyah thanked IUT delegation for arranging this trip and announced that he is ready to support the development of communications and implementation of the signed agreements.
